In his customary format, Pablo Splice delivers another triad of unusual electro cuts, with an added set of remixes. The originals rely heavily on absurd melodic elements backed by dry, punchy rhythms with a retro / modern feel.
'Maurits methodz' is a steady workout that features an abstract analog synth riff which progresses by constantly folding in on itself. Ultra clean top rocking beats and weird science atmospheres form the precise minimalist accompaniment to craft a quirky but groovy flow.
'Yeah, no, 4 sure' continues in identical fashion while taking the absurdity up a notch. With a familiar synth voice, a new set of riffs kick this one off, reinforced by extremely punchy 808 patterns. A tripped-out, robotic pop-lock section is introduced by a chorus of bees. Intriguing melodic themes rotate through an arsenal of psychedelic synth leads, with odd drones making scenic shifts in the background. When it's time to make it weird while keeping things hype on the floor, this cut serves perfectly.
Hitting a more emotional note, 'sambatronix' is a unique but natural fusion of electro with a latin feel. The emphasis on synth riffs is prevalent, emerging steadily from the bass line, over prominent syncopated beats, erupting multiple times in a wave of lush, cascading melodic fragments. An extended outro allows bold layering of Pablo Splice's distinctive percussion into the next mix.
The mighty CYRK is enlisted for a remix of 'yeah, no, 4 sure', and their version is every bit as dynamic and creative as would be expected. This favourite Berlin duo turn heads with every new production. Their punchy, trippy version harnesses all available low end power, topped with sinuous high end intellect.
AD & the Persuader (Alexi Delano & Jesper Dahlback) refashion 'sambatronix' into a stream-of-consciousness minimal techno burner. A call-and-response exchange of synth leads powers their dreamy version, held fast to a steady arrangement of powerful rhythms and delicate top line percussion.
Closing out the EP, Noah Pred offers something deeply special to the package, tackling a remix of 'Psweetest Taboo', a seminal track from Pablo Splice-Psychodrama EP released last year on UKR Special Series (urbankickzrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/ukrss087-psychodrama-ep). Noah's original works display his penchant for matching a keen, angular melodic sensibility with unusual and deeply textured sound design. Here he applies those talents to perfection, complimenting the Pablo Splice sonic signature with his own characteristic flair.
